July 1, 1996: Benchmark Publications launched a new imprint with two books and a tiny product line to complement our service business. As our Small Press grows behind the scenes, BPI uses the showcase of the Internet to bring unusual, worthwhile titles and products to your attention.
What is a Small Press? It has been defined by number of employees, revenue, new titles published per year, but by our standards the best definition is that of independence. As the Small Press Center in Manhattan has pointed out, “without the Small Press community, the world might never have read the works of Henry Adams, W.H. Auden, William Cullen Bryant, Stephen Crane, T.S. Eliot, William Faulkner, Edna St. Vincent Millay, Marianne Moore, Edgar Allen Poe,
Carl Sandburg and Walt Whitman.”Click a category, come inside, meet our authors...
